Home Security Checklist

In today's world home security is an increasing focus for all of us as we seek to protect our families and our home. For this reason you might find the following home security checklist useful in considering the dangers and the best way to secure your home:

1. Get a feeling for your street. Is it dangerous? Are their trees, buildings, or walls that intruders may be hiding behind?
2. Do you have a security screen door? Do you have security doors on both the front and back of the house? On your front door do you have a peephole or a safety chain to view who's there?
3. Could someone get a screwdriver between your door and the lock or hinges? The tighter the door fits the better.
4. Do you have spare keys hidden in an obvious spot? Remember if you do someone may be observing where you put them,
5. Don't leave any windows open, even for ventilation.
6. Do you have locks for all of your windows and doors?
7. Could someone break into your home by removing your door hinges?
8. Could someone break into your home by breaking a glass door or a window near your door? If they do, does that door have a deadlock on it?
9. Do you have any tools lying around, or gardening tools, that a burglar could pick up and use to break into your home?
